History of the Oklahoma City Chapter
Pan American Golf Association (PAGA)
From 1963 to Present

The Oklahoma City Chapter of the Pan American Golf Association (PAGA) was formed by a small group of 12 avid Golfers. Among them were Dr. Edward Esparza, Pete Sousa, Alex Rodriguez and Temo & Lencho Cagigal.  The Oklahoma City Chapter was the first Chapter formed outside the state of Texas, being sponsored for membership in 1963 by the Fort Worth Chapter.  The Oklahoma City Chapter was instrumental in initiating the Wichita (Kansas) and Chicago Chapters; thus making the Pan American Golf Association into a National Organization.  Two of our members, Dr. Esparza and Tom Mendoza have served as officers on the National Board.  Pete Sousa has served on a National Committee.

In 1972, we hosted the 15th Annual PAGA National Tournament and Convention which resulted in a huge success despite the fact that it was our first endeavor at such a large undertaking.  Our Ladies auxiliary played a tremendous role in this convention!

In 1983, we hosted the 26th Annual PAGA National Tournament and Convention.  Being our second Nationals, we were able to put on one great Convention.

In 1993, we hosted the 36th Annual PAGA National Tournament and Convention, again it was a huge success.

In July 2006, we will be hosting the 49th Annual PAGA National Tournament and Convention.  We are looking forward to a great turn-out and a good time had by all of our PAGA families.

The Oklahoma City chapter is very active in local civic affairs, just like all chapters in our organization.  We hold golf tournaments and raffles to raise funds to support Junior Golf, Scholarships and the Diabetes Foundation.
